Event Final Info - Singletrack Mind Series Round 1

Dear All

Thank you for entering Round 1 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series – protected by Brave Soldier, at the legendary Lidsdale State Forest, Lithgow, on Sunday 18 April. This email is to confirm you are entered and tell you a few final things you need to know. More detailed Round 1 info is also on the website.

Directions

The first thing you'll need to know is how to get there: Google Map

Coming from Lithgow: head on the Great Western Highway toward Bathurst. After 10-11km you will head uphill and see thick pine forest to the right. It's dual carriageway here, and there's a right turn across the other lane into Forest Ridge Drive, look for the Singletrack Mind series signs. About 100m on the left, turn on to the old concrete section of the highway. There is heaps of parking down the sides of the concrete and you can base yourself out of your car which is super convenient!

Coming from Bathurst or Oberon: on the Great Western Highway toward Lithgow, look for the Singletrack Mind series signs and Forest Ridge Drive on the left. If you get to the turn off to Wallerawang you have gone too far.

Registration

Look for the huge white marquee with the registration sign and come on in! Registration will be open from 3.00 –  5.00pm on Saturday and 6.00 – 7.30am on Sunday. There's an excellent reason to get registered early as our friends at Brave Soldier are giving away samples of their Friction Zone and Code Blue products to the first 300 riders to register. Friction Zone is a super awesome chamois cream, so register late and you may end up with a pain in the bum! If you miss early rego, or have team mates who can’t make it in time, we will have late rego available from 8.15 – 9.00am.

At Registration you'll need to flash your MTBA card if you are a MTBA member. We are accepting team changes (rider substitutions) on the day. If your new rider is not a MTBA member they will need to pay $15 (cash only) for a MTBA day licence even if the rider they are replacing has already paid for a day licence online – the insurance policy always stays with the individual. Day licences are not transferable BUT the unused day licence will be refunded to the rider who originally paid for it in online entry – minus a buck ($1) for administration.

Along with your number plate (which must be affixed to the front of the bike and in front of any cables or hoses so we can read it) you will receive a small orange timing chip that you must affix to your fork leg with the supplied cable ties. Ensure that you are using the chip that was allocated to you and if you swap your bike during the day then you will need to swap the transponder as well – if you think that's a possibility, bring cutters and spare cable ties for a speedy bike change.

Soloists - If you are a Retro Bike special category entrant and you have found that your old bike is not in fact in “good working order” we're happy for you to opt out of this, just inform us at event rego. We don't want to see any snapping frames ... it's happened to Joe before, and it ain't pretty. Likewise, if you’ve dug out a piece of MTB history from the depths of the garage that you wish to re-bond with for the day, you’re welcome to opt in for the Retro Bike category at Rego.

In addition to Brave Soldier products we'll have plenty of info from our long list of wonderful sponsors so don't forget to pick up their flyers – it's all good stuff, this ain't junk!

Rules & Conditions

Being the conscientious type you would have already read our Rules and Conditions, there's nothing out of the ordinary there but in case you haven't you should give it a read, just so there's no misunderstanding or disappointment. If you're going for a good result across the series then take note of the substitutions rules. MTBA have recently updated their rules for minimum ages for junior participation, please take note if you are the parent or guardian of one of our young “pinners”.

Services & Facilities

We have everything you need for a great day out on the bike with food, water, lots of dunnies and mechanical support.

  • Espresso Mobile will be cranking out the coffee and hot drinks from 6.00am Sunday.
  • Lithgow Valley Springs have supplied 1000 litres of crystal clear H2O, but for your own convenience bring your bottles filled and some spare from home so it's ready to go.
  • The Volunteer Rescue Association won't just save your life they can cook up a mean veggie pasta along with a whole bunch of good stuff to keep you fuelled. We'll be first in line for pancakes! Check out what they are providing here. Yum!
  • Mechanical Support: The SRAM tech support service will be there to tweak your X9 mech or bleed your Elixirs as well as having plenty of bling for you to ogle. Lifecycles will be there with mobile bike shop and have wrenchers on hand to look after any non-SRAM related bike issues. Neither service will charge you for labour, but of course if you need new parts then they'll charge you very reasonable prices.
  • Want to demo some awesome 1100 lumen bike lights? K-Lite Racing will have a few demo units for you to try out. Kerry from K-Lite will be leading a night ride at 7.00pm Saturday. You will need to be registered for the event, bring your own lights (front & rear) and have your number plate affixed.
  • Camping is permitted at Lidsdale State Forest on Saturday night but there are no facilities provided apart from toilets and it's expected to get down to around 5 degrees, so bring ya woolies!
  • Mobile Phone reception: Telstra Next G is best at Lidsdale but not guaranteed.
  • First Aid: The wonderful folks from St John Ambulance will be on hand on Saturday and Sunday to attend to your bumps and scrapes, so don't hesitate to see them if you have any medical concerns.

Contact Details

If you have any questions about anything to do with the event, please contact us by email up until 11am Friday 16 April or by phone - 0457 084 552. We don't do Blackberry or iPhone so please ring us if you want a quick response.

On the Day Entries

And finally, we have received a bunch of sob stories from people who didn't enter in time. Now we love hearing excuses and long rambling tales of how things didn't quite go to plan - “my dog ate my internet dongle”, “I thought my mate was going to enter us and he thought I was going to enter us”. Sometimes they're sad and entirely legitimate but sometimes they're just a little … creative!

So tell your friend(s) that didn’t quite get organised that for this round that we've decided to take on the day entries BUT you have to come up with a creative sob story to go with it. The teller of the best story will be required to perform this with great conviction at Presentation for which they will receive a little something as a reward for entertaining us!

Important note: On the day entries must download, fill out and bring this form to Registration (and of course their sob story). On the day entries are cash only, so please bring correct change – also note that a late fee of $10 per rider applies.

Also, this doesn’t mean that on the day entries will be offered at future rounds – we’re just being extra flexible this time around to lick you all into shape!

We're really looking forward to meeting each and every one of you and can't wait until the horn blows for race start!

Cheers

Joe & Fi
