The Chocolate Wrapper - 2014 Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series R4 Event Report

4 September 2014

Dear Singletracker

The Nowra round of the Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series will be remembered as surprising for a number of reasons. Early last week we really didn't think it was going to happen but Nowra was spared much of the forecast rain, and the forecast improved so by Wednesday we were GO! And wasn't Sunday amazing? Mostly dry trails, hero grip, sunny skies and warm weather. The other surprising element was the popularlity of the recovery services provided by Bioathletic! The ice bath was a great hit and lots of you learnt about the value of stretching and the use of foam rollers to loosen up knotted legs!

There were plenty of great battles throughout the day and you can read up on all the racing news on marathonmtb.com.

We are so lucky to have such awesome support from sponsors and services at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. The event centre was full of displays - Finish Line, Grimm-Hewitt, Kobie International, James Estate Wines, SRAM, Rockpool Graphics, and Bioathletic. It was great to have present Berry Mountain Cycles as bike shop support, Snax on Trax for their excellent catering and beverages, and the fantastic Short Circuit Cancer crew - we are privileged that you have chosen our Series to help promote Short Circuit Cancer (and enjoy some wicked singletrack along the way!).

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $13,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors Finish Line, SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Rockpool Graphics, Kobie, Aussie Butt Cream, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Ventou Cycling Wear, Cycle & Fitness Studio, Ritchey and Grimm-Hewitt!

Congratulations also to our prize draw winners - Brooke Rowlands who won the lovely Grimm-Hewitt original artwork and Andrew Szwec who won a set of SRAM Rise 40 wheels!

Results, Photos, Video & Reports

The race results, including Female & Male 20 fastest laps, are up on the website. Here you'll also find a bunch of reports from the race and competitor feedback. Updated Series points are also available on the Results & Reports page. Please take a look and let us know if anything appears incorrect, particularly if you're in the running for a Series podium!

Event photographer and lensman extraordinaire Dave Bateman took loads of fantastic shots which are showcased in our Gallery. Ian Moses was also snapping away and has supplied some great shots for your viewing pleasure - also in the Gallery. You're welcome to download the low-res shots displayed there for your personal use and if you want to purchase a high-res copy ($15 per image), please This email address is being protected from spambots. We're currently editing a short video of footage from the day and will post on Facebook and in Latest News once it's available so you can see if you made the cut!

Chocolate Foot Women's MTB Development Team

Despite tougher competition in this round our Women's MTB Development Team all managed podium positions! In the 7hr, the team took out the second and third steps of the Female Pairs category, and second in the Mixed Threes. In the 4hr, Mel's battle with the tenacious Eva Boland continued, Mel's legs weren't feeling the best but she persisted to claw back into third behind Eva and Berry rider, Bel Althaus. We'd love you to check out the Team Website which includes rider profiles, blogs and info about their very generous sponsors.

Putting our best foot forward …

It may sound a bit crazy, but Joe and Fi are going to be riding bikes, in a race, this weekend! We're heading out to Parkes to the Back Yamma Bigfoot marathon which we hear is a singletrack extravaganza - 'bout time we had some of the fun! We'll be competing in the 50km along with three of the Choccy Foot women's team ... wish us luck!

And, the grand finale awaits! Round 5 at Orange is guaranteed to be awesome! We raced the Ginja Ninja there earlier in the year and even in the wet it's fantastic - but for our race the club has promised dry, flowy trails and that legendary descent to the finish! All the event info is on the website and we look forward to seeing you there.

That's it for our event wrap the "Chocolate Wrapper"!

Cheers

Joe & Fi
