The Chocolate Wrapper - 2014 Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series R2 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

"Joe and Fi have certainly dished out a winning combination by including this venue in their wonderful series, allowing mountain bikers of all levels to experience one of the best tracks NSW has to offer. Without doubt this is a race that will live long in the memory."

Those kind words are from long-time Singletrack Mind series racer Phil Welch and we've received plenty more enthusiastic feedback as well. But the comment that we love the most and reflects what a great bunch of competitors we always have at the Singletrack Mind series is this, from a woman who experienced her first MTB race at Mogo, "Thank you so much for a brilliant introduction into the sport. MTB is what everyone says - people are so welcoming and encouraging".

While we might make the race happen, it's the competitors who create the positive vibe and you all do that admirably! Thank you all.

Of course, the race track you are all raving about is courtesy of the Eurobodalla Cyclists - massive thanks to this small but proactive club for providing the magnificent Mogo trails and being an absolute pleasure to work with on the event! You probably heard mention more than once of the fact that there are a bunch more fantastic trails in the area - when you're next down that way, don't hesitate to get in touch with the locals as we're sure they'll be happy to play tour guide!

The racing, as always, was top class and so incredibly close in some categories, with podium positions separated only by seconds! And what about that fast young man Ben Metcalfe, getting 2nd & 3rd fastest laps of the day (missing out on 1st by only 1 second!)? Pretty impressive considering he's 14yo!

Check out the race report on AMB for the low down on the battles throughout the day!

The kids' race was as ever great fun, with amazing riding skills displayed from all competitors, but the highlight was watching young Kayla overshoot the corner and take out our photographer! Unfortunately he didn't get the shot but he at least provided a soft landing and she was back on course in no time to chase down the leaders.

Batemans-Bay-CyclesWe are so lucky to have such awesome support from sponsors and services at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. The rescheduled race meant only one sponsor could be present - James Estate Wines - but huge thanks to them, Batemans Bay Cycles for providing fantastic bike shop and mechanical support, and Snax on Trax for their excellent catering and beverages. And the Short Circuit Cancer crew were there in force both on and off the course, displaying their blingy new Toyota and fluoro team kit - thanks to all those who donated to this very worthy cause.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $13,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors Finish Line, SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Rockpool Graphics, Kobie, Aussie Butt Cream, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Ventou, Cycle & Fitness Studio, Ritchey and Grimm-Hewitt!

Congratulations also to our prize draw winners - Marisa Bertoia who won the lovely Grimm-Hewitt original artwork and Lucy Bechtel who won a set of SRAM brakes!

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who assisted in the successful running of the event:

Lost and Found

Just a couple of items of lost property from this race - a track pump and a Netti cycling top. If you think either of these are yours, please get in touch with a description.

Chocolate Foot Women's MTB Development Team

A special shout out to our Women's MTB Development Team for their achievements at Mogo. Linda, Briony and Steph all graced the podium in Female Pairs and Mel came 4th in Open Female Solo with only a minute covering 2nd to 4th place. While unable to race due to a recent injury, Monika showed true team spirit assisting us with the smooth running of the event and cheering on her team mates. Congratulations, Team, you rock! We'd love you to check out the Team Website which includes rider profiles, blogs, and sponsor information.

Putting our best foot forward …

Round 3 at Awaba is just around the corner on 3 August! The weather forecast is looking primo for this round, and there's no doubt the highly-acclaimed Awaba singletrack will provide thrills and satisfaction! All the event info is on the website and we look forward to seeing you there!

That's it for our event wrap the "Chocolate Wrapper"!
