The Chocolate Wrapper - 2013 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series Round 5 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

What a way to round out the 2013 Series! How good are the Kinross trails? Huge thanks to all who came and rode, raced and revelled in the flowy goodness out west!

Huge thanks also to the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club as they're always an absolute pleasure to work with on these events, and provide us with the sublime singletrack that is Kinross. We totally recommend a repeat visit for CWORBC's Ginja Ninja race on 16 Feb 2014 - the 250min race format giving plenty of time to explore the singletrack network and local cellar doors = winning!

The racing is always top class but with a number of new names and teams, plus series honours on the line, it was hugely entertaining to watch. Check out the media release on for the low down on the battles throughout the day!

The kids' race was as ever great fun, there were thrills and spills and Dave Bateman captured all the action here!

We are so lucky to have such awesome support from sponsors and services at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. Thanks to Mountain Biking Australia Magazine, James Estate Wines, and DG Cycles for their support at this event, and Orange BMX Club and Snax on Trax for the excellent range of food & drinks they had on offer.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $13,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Giant, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Aussie Butt Cream, Frameskin, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, OnTheGo, Finish Line and Flow Mountain Bike! Congratulations to our prize draw winners: Olaf Heeremans won a $50 Giant voucher, Kevin Eather scored a SRAM XX SL Gripshift set worth $380, and Paris Millington walked away with a SRAM Rise 40 wheelset worth over $700!

Thanks and congratulations go to our Serial Offender draw winners, Jason Dreggs and Rachel Wilkinson (Rach is actually a repeat Serial Offender, and won last year's draw too!). We're stoked to see the growing number of people attending each round of the Series.

Congratulations also to our Series winners and placegetters, it's been fantastic to see such consistent competition throughout the Series. Thank you for supporting the Series. We've posted a gallery of the Series Presentation on Facebook, feel free to tag yourselves!

Event photographer and lensman extraordinaire Dave Bateman took loads of fantastic shots, including the kids' race, which are showcased in our Gallery. You're welcome to download the low-res shots displayed there for your personal use and if you want to purchase a high-res copy ($15 per image), just get in touch. Well worth it we reckon if you're lucky enough to have appeared in one of these amazing shots!

Mountain Biking Australia Magazine took loads of shots ... check out their Facebook gallery to see if you made the cover!

And super-vollie Josh Nicholson has put together a great little gallery of his shots showcasing the day's highlights.

We also shot a little event video, check it out here to see if you made the cut!

Fundraising at the Event

Thanks to everyone who donated to 17 year old Michael Blyth, who became a paraplegic as a result of a mountain bike accident, via the collection tins that we had at the event - we know the Blyth family sincerely appreciates your support. Please spread the word to your fellow mountain bikers -

You'll surely have spotted the Short Circuit Cancer banner and branded Toyota at the event centre - very inspirational guys and girls who run a great MTB event in the Royal National Park each year as a fundraiser for cancer. Next year's event will be on 29 March, please spread the word - - and we hope to see you there!

Putting our best foot forward …

We’ll be sending out a Series Wrap early next year when we’ll also announce next year’s venues. You can look forward to at least one venue, of that much we're certain! Currently the proposed dates are: 18 or 25 May (TBC), 22 June, 3 August, 7 September, 19 October. Whack 'em in your diary and subscribe to our newsletter Footprint to ensure you get all the info as soon as it's available!

That's it for our event wrap the "Chocolate Wrapper", and we look forward to seeing you next year for some more singletrack bliss!
