Chocolate Foot

The Chocolate Wrapper - 2013 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series Round 4 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

Well, well, well, wasn't Welby swell! We think everyone would agree that it was worth the stuffing around with rescheduling, a great day out on the bike... finally! Dry and dusty but fast and fun trails made for really good, close racing all day! Huge thanks to all who came and big props to those who were off raising money for MS at the Sydney to Gong.

Also thanks to Southern Highlands Cycling Club as they're always an absolute pleasure to work with on these events and they have put in countless hours building and maintaining Welby MTB park.

Highlights of the day for us were seeing soloists Andrew Lloyd and Ed McDonald beat every team in the race bar one, very impressive and only 3 weeks after the sufferfest of the Wembo 24 hour champs. The kids' race was as ever great fun, there were thrills, spills and the odd tear but nothing that a Chocolate Foot and a hug from Gumby couldn't fix!

Check out yesterday's media release on Mountain Biking Australia Magazine for the low down on the "big kids" battles throughout the day!

Our fantastic sponsors supported the event with displays and services from SRAM Neutral Service, Mountain Biking Australia magazine and James Estate Wines. We are so lucky to have such awesome support at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. Thanks also to McGee Cycles for their assistance with this event, and Snax on Trax for the excellent range of food & drinks they had on offer.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $11,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Giant, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Aussie Butt Cream, Frameskin, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, OnTheGo, Finish Line and Flow Mountain Bike! Congratulations to Kye Fisher for walking away with the draw prize of a SRAM Rise 40 wheelset worth over $600, and to Ben Edols who won another draw prize of a SRAM XX SL Gripshift set worth $380! Thanks also to Garry James who donated this prize back into the draw. Apparently he doesn't have enough bikes to use all the Gripshift sets he's won this year!

Results, Photos, Video & Reports

Preliminary results, including Female & Male 20 fastest laps, are up on the website. Please take a look and get in touch if anything is incorrect! Updated Series Points will also be posted on the website soon.

You can find some blogs and reports from the race all collected here, plus some competitor & supporter feedback.

Event photographer and lensman extraordinaire Dave Bateman took loads of fantastic shots which are showcased in our Gallery. There'll also be a gallery from the kids' race uploaded within the next day or so.

You're welcome to download the low-res shots displayed there for your personal use and if you want to purchase a high-res copy ($15 per image), just get in touch. Well worth it we reckon if you're lucky enough to have appeared in one of these amazing shots!

We also shot a little event video, check it out here to see if you made the cut!

Thank You

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who assisted in the successful running of the event:

Series Jerseys and T-shirts - Get yours ordered!

We had an amazing response to our new Series t-shirts by Cycology and jerseys by OnTheGo. If you're planning on ordering one for Round 5, then please do so ASAP as we're putting in a final order this Friday 8 November.

We've discovered that in the men's sizes both tees and jerseys are on the smaller end of the sizing chart, so if you're between sizes then it's best to go up rather than down.

Putting our best foot forward …

The singletrack nirvana of Kinross, Orange, is the venue for Round 5, our Series Finale, and the crew from the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club are looking forward to welcoming you there. Get your entry in and let the (Facebook) world know you're coming!

We've also got a couple of smaller events planned before the end of the year. We've recently run a couple of women only MTB skills clinics and due to high demand have scheduled a mixed skills clinic for Sunday 15 December at St Ives Showground. On the same weekend we'll also be running a social ride on Saturday 14 December in the Terrey Hills area - details coming soon, keep an eye on the website for more info or sign up to our Social Riders newsletter.

That's it for our event wrap the "Chocolate Wrapper", and we look forward to seeing you at Kinross!

Cheers

Joe & Fi
