The Chocolate Wrapper - 2013 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series Round 3 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

We're confident that you'd agree that Round 3 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series was a roaring success! We know we're always talking about the weather  but suffice to say we were very happy to have a mild, sunny, calm day at Awaba and we're sure you were too!

The day was made memorable not only by the great vibe at the event centre and on track, but also the hilarity witnessed at the marshal station where passing riders were entertained by 80s music and crazy costumes! And if you thought that was painful, just be glad the guys didn't get their water bombs going! No doubt you appreciated our caterers Snax on Trax thinking outside the squre and offering slushies and frozen yoghurt as alternatives to the typical bike race fare. And how good are SRAM? Trent provided a complete fork rebuild prior to race start for a competitor who thought his race was over before it began! And we're very grateful to Breakaway Cycles for their assistance with neutral support at this race.

Racing was, as always, fast, thrilling and close, not only in the event itself but at the kids' race too. With a bumper field of tikes on bikes,  there were four divisions all hotly contested and not without a bit of argy bargy! Check out today's media release on for the low down on the "big kids" battles throughout the day.

Our fantastic sponsors supported the event with displays and services from SRAM Neutral Service, Hammer Nutrition, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Finish Line and James Estate Wines. We are so lucky to have such awesome support at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike. Thanks also to Breakaway Cycles for their assistance with this event.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $11,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Giant, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Aussie Butt Cream, Frameskin, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, OnTheGo, Finish Line and Flow Mountain Bike! Congratulations to Doug Pollock for walking away with the draw prize of a SRAM Rise 40 wheelset worth over $600! And very well done to Poppy for her exemplary slushie-eating skills, winning her a Giant $50 voucher!

Fundraising at the Event

Thanks to everyone who donated to 17 year old Michael Blyth, who became a paraplegic as a result of a mountain bike accident, via the collection tins that we had at the event - we know the Blyth family sincerely appreciates your support. Please spread the word to your fellow mountain bikers -

You'll surely have spotted the Short Circuit Cancer banner and branded Toyota at the event centre - very inspirational guys and girls who run a great MTB event in the Royal National Park each year as a fundraiser for cancer. They're about to launch a new website so for now head to their Facebook page to stay in touch.

Last but not least, you would hopefully have found a couple of flyers from the Stroke Foundation in your rider pack. Stroke has had a huge impact on those close to us, so this is a cause we're also happy to promote to our networks - we hope you can consider supporting this cause too. Head to to see how you can help.

Results, Photos & Reports

Preliminary results, including Female & Male 20 fastest laps, are up on the website. Please take a look and get in touch if anything is incorrect! Updated Series Points will also be posted on the website soon.

You can find some blogs and reports from the race all collected here, plus some competitor & supporter feedback.

Event photographer and lensman extraordinaire Dave Bateman took loads of fantastic shots, including from the kids' race, which we'll showcase in our Gallery later this week. Ian Moses was also out there snapping away and there'll be a gallery of his shots, too. When the pics are published, you're welcome to download the low-res shots displayed there for your personal use and if you want to purchase a high-res copy ($15 per image), just get in touch. Well worth it we reckon if you're lucky enough to have appeared in one of these amazing shots!

As soon as these galleries are available, we'll post in our Latest News section and of course on Facebook!

Series Jerseys and T-shirts - Get yours ordered!

Otherwise, you can This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to order separately to entry.

We've discovered that in the men's sizes both tees and jerseys are on the smaller end of the sizing chart, so if you're between sizes then it's best to go up rather than down.
