The Chocolate Wrapper - 2013 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series Round 1 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

Whoa! That was pretty special we think you'll agree!! It may have been mentioned about a million times since the event but ... HOW GOOD ARE THE TAREE TRAILS?! The fantastic Manning Great Lakes Tip Riders crew spent many hours in the forest creating a race track to remember - and memorable it was! The weather was mild and sunny, we couldn't ask for better! Thankfully it seems the most blood shed was due to the rather persistent mozzies, although we wish Dave McNaughton all the best in recovering from his broken collarbone - however given he's a Series stalwart his mates have already dobbed him in for volunteer duties at the next round!

As we have come to expect at a Singletrack Mind Series event, the racing was top class with a number of new names and teams shaking up the leaderboard, such as World and National Champion Jason English, Eliza Kwan, Stu Adams, and the PCS Torq team of Nick Both and Lindsay Gorrell. Check out the media release on Flow Mountain Bike for the low down on the battles throughout the day.

We're stoked when we hear that our events have such a fun, relaxed vibe and we thank you all - the riders, supporters, sponsors and services - for helping create that. With such a diverse range of competitors on the track it was heartening to hear from one of our Fab Fours (our new participation category) that their novice rider had a great first race experience and is keen to return for more! Huge props to Chris Southwood who took care of an injured rider, and thank you to all the other Good Samaritans we didn't hear about. And to the guy in the Forests NSW jersey who kept popping in to Rego with pockets full of lost bidons etc. found out on track - apologies as we forgot to award this prize at Presentation, please get in touch if you read this as we've got some booty for you!

Our fantastic sponsors supported the event with displays and services from SRAM Neutral Service, Giant, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Hammer Nutrition, Finish Line, James Estate Wines, and Flow Mountain Bike. We are so lucky to have such awesome support at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $13,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Bellwether, Deuter, Giant, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, James Estate, Aussie Butt Cream, Frameskin, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, OnTheGo, Finish Line and Flow Mountain Bike! Congratulations to local Taree Tip Rider Bruce Pain for walking away with the draw prize of a RockShox SID RCT3 fork worth $920!

We’d like to take this opportunity to apologise to team KMORC in the Male Threes, who missed their chance on the podium at Presentation due to a timing error. They came a well-deserved third in the category and we'll get some prizes to you pronto! We’re sincerely sorry, and trust we'll see you have your moment of glory at a future round of the Series!

Results, Photos & Reports

Preliminary results, including Female & Male 20 fastest laps, are up on the website. Please take a look and get in touch if anything is incorrect! And congrats to everyone who competeted at Taree and picked up 40 bonus Series Points which will also be posted on the website soon.

You can find some blogs and reports from the race all collected here, plus some competitor & supporter feedback.

Event photographer and lensman extraordinaire Dave Bateman took some fantastic shots – check them out in the Gallery. You're welcome to download the low-res shots displayed there for your personal use and if you want to purchase a high-res copy ($15 per image), just get in touch. Well worth it we reckon if you're lucky enough to have appeared in one of Dave's amazing shots!

And if you're still dreaming about the fantastic singletrack at Taree then you can relive the action in this short but fun video!

Thank You

We'd like to take this opportunity to thank everybody who assisted in the successful running of the event:

Series Jerseys and T-shirts - Get yours ordered!

We had an amazing response to our new Series t-shirts by Cycology and jerseys by OnTheGo. If you missed out on getting one in  your size, then you can either enter now for Round 2 and order it with your entry (we'll be re-ordering in the next week or so), or if you're not coming to Round 2 then please This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to let us know what you're after and we'll include it in the order.

From Round 1 we learnt that in the men's sizes both tees and jerseys are on the smaller end of the sizing chart, so if you're between sizes then it's best to go up rather than down.

We've still got a few of the 2012 jerseys and tees available, for the bargain price of $40 jersey and $10 tee, plus $8 postage if needed. Sizes as follows, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to snap one up!

Jerseys - $40: Men's XXL; Women's S, M, L, XL
Tees - $10: Men's S, XL; Women's 14
