The Chocolate Wrapper - 2012 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series Round 6 Event Report

Dear Singletracker

Well, doesn't the weather always make Awaba an interesting venue? With rain of biblical proportions forcing us to reschedule this race not once but twice last year, we were relieved to see a dry forecast for the weekend. What our crystal ball didn't alert us to was the much-higher-than-forecast temperature! But, as the largest round of the Series with over 360 entrants, it's  pretty clear that the swooping singletrack of Awaba is universally adored and not even the thought of 8 hours of riding in temperatures around the mid-thirties put you guys off. Gumby, on the other hand, found his plasticine to have a lower melting point and was forced to minimise his antics for fear of becoming a jolly green blob. As for Pokey, with the exception of a brief appearance on Saturday, he was nowhere to be found and we suspect he's moonlighting as one of Santa's reindeer.

As always, the racing was top class with a number of new names and teams shaking up the leaderboard. Check out the media release on SRAM Australia's website for the low down on the battles throughout the day.

Our fantastic sponsors supported the event with displays and services from SRAM Neutral Service, Giant, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Muc-Off, Jimmy Jack Wines, The Body Mechanic and Zerofive Custom Sportswear. We are stoked to have such awesome support at the events and we're sure it's appreciated by competitors and spectators alike.

Congratulations to all the category winners and place getters for their awesome efforts, walking away with over $15,000 in cash and prizes from our fantastic sponsors SRAM, Avid, RockShox, Truvativ, Serfas, Giant, Cycology, Hammer Nutrition, Jimmy Jack wine, Aussie Butt Cream, Kenda, Frameskin, Mountain Biking Australia magazine, Keep It Together and Muc-Off! A very worthy winner was Serial Offender Di Gbel who walked away with a $1500 voucher from Giant, and congratulations to Vincent Keir and Sebastien Dunne who each went home with the very blingy SRAM RISE 40 wheelset worth $750. And how awesome was the spectacle of the Chocolate Foot eating competition, which started out at a furious pace but soon ground to a gooey halt ... congratulations to Brock Perry who won a Body Mechanic biomechanical assessment worth $105 for having the fastest sweet tooth! Thanks and congratulations go to our Serial Offender draw winners, Paul Turnbull and Rachel Wilkinson. We're stoked to see the growing number of people attending each round of the Series.

Congratulations also to our Series winners and placegetters, it's been fantastic to see such consistent competition throughout the Series. Thank you for supporting the Series. We've posted a gallery of the Series Presentation on Facebook, feel free to tag yourselves!

Putting our best foot forward …

We’ll be sending out a Series Wrap report in the near future where we’ll also announce next year’s venues. We're still finalising dates, with a plan for five rounds instead of six in 2013 due to the increasingly over-crowded race calendar in NSW & ACT - but hopefully these will be five races you won't wanna miss! Subscribe to our newsletter Footprint to ensure you get all the info as soon as it's available!

That's it for our event wrap the "Chocolate Wrapper", and we look forward to seeing you in 2013!

Cheers

Joe & Fi
