Chocolate Foot

Footprint: Chocolate Foot News, April 2016

Hello and welcome, it's been a while since the last edition of Footprint so we've got quite a bit to tell you!

Our year has got off to a great start with a trip to the South Island of New Zealand in late Feb to take part in the TransNZ Enduro - 5 days of epic riding, stunning scenery and glorious weather, and a great crew of fellow racers. If you're a fan of enduro you should definitely put this race on your bucket list! Joe didn't get off to the best start with a crash on the first day rendering him in hospital with a punctured lung and five busted ribs. His race was over but he more than made up for it cheering track-side for the rest of the week!

specialized ambassadors northsouthblogWe're proud to announce that in early February Fi was selected to be a Specialized Women's Ambassador, one of 12 women across Australia. Fi attended the Women's Ambassador Summit in Melbourne earlier this month where the ambassadors got together at Specialized HQ to share knowledge, ideas, and ride together. Fi got to do her first ever road bunch ride (and didn't cause any accidents, yay!) and then enjoyed hitting the dirt at Lysterfield Park and watching the road riders discover the joy of MTB! There'll be lots of women's social rides and experiences popping up through the Ambassador program over the coming months - keep an eye on the Specialized Facebook page for news of these and we'll share them out on the Choccy Foot page too!

OK, that's enough about us, read on for the Footprint news items below!

STM Logo 4002016 Finish Line Singletrack Mind Series

We're a little sad to announce that we won't be offering the Singletrack Mind Series in 2016. It's a decision we haven't taken lightly as we know there will be many of you who will miss their fix of racing on some of the best singletrack around NSW and we'll be sincerely sorry to not see your smiling faces several times this year!

There are a number of great things about our races. We know the Series has a good reputation, a great vibe, attracts the highest quality of riders and has the best female participation rate of anything like it. Organising the races is lots of fun and very rewarding for us, and the highlight has been all the wonderful people we’ve met through it.

There have been a few hurdles thrown in the way of the Series this year and while they aren't insurmountable, they have highlighted to us that we would prefer to be spending our energy elsewhere, focusing more on helping to build the social aspect of the sport through our women's development team, social rides and skills clinics, and attending other races to support our team or even race ourselves!

It might be a case of 'watch this space' for future editions of the Series, or this decision might help us bring to fruition other event ideas we've had but haven't had adequate time to work on.

We'd like to sincerely thank you all for helping make the Singletrack Mind Series the premier endurance series in NSW, not only for the quality of the racing but the amazing event vibe that we've all loved along the way!

Chocolate Foot Women's Development Team

choccy foot chix mont

The members of the Choccy Foot Women's Development Team have had some great experiences since our last newsletter! They most recenty competed in The Mont 24hr, but there's been plenty else happening with Charlotte at the National Champs, Mel's adventure racing, and Eva's heading off to "shred the gnar" in Canada!

The Mont is easily the biggest MTB event in the country, so where better to throw some of our ladies into their first 24 hour race! In at the deep end! For some it would be their first race at night and one of their first rides at night! With injury ruling Joe out of racing, he was feeling well enough to play team manager, bike mechanic, and chef! A surprisingly full-on job, he got to drink far less beer than he'd hoped!

The team did great, with no missed transitions, no significant crashes or slow laps, everyone kept it consistent right though the night to come 3rd in the Open Women's 4's! A brilliant result for a team so new to this style of racing.

We also had our "friends of Chocolate Foot" team called Caramel Foot racing in the same category, they had a great race taking 2nd place!

With bucket loads of stoke and confidence coming out of this event, we're really looking forward to getting out racing more with these fantastic ladies!

Big thanks to all the team's sponsor partners: Manly Cycles, Cycle & Fitness Studio, Bioathletic Sports Injury & Performance, Specialized, Ventou Custom Cycle Wear, Aussie Butt Cream, Hammer Nutrition and Today's Plan. All without whom this project would not be possible.

This Sunday marks the kick off of the Evocities MTB series for 2016 at Bathurst! Joe went to all the rounds last year and can thoroughly reccomend hitting the road and checking out what regional NSW has to offer.

Bathurst is the first of 7 rounds and is a city that has a solid dose of the cycling bug! They created a purpose built cycling facility with a velodrome, BMX track and MTB trails. Best of all you can grab a shower in the club rooms after the race!

2016 and beyond

While we're letting the Singletrack Mind Series put its feet up in a hammock for a while, we're still brainstorming for new and interesting event ideas, so contact us if you have a new concept that you think MTB'ers will love!

What we really love about organising events is meeting so many super cool, like-minded riders. We'll be continuing to run skills clinics and organising more social rides and having fun adventures with our Choccy Foot women's team.

That's it from us for now, but we're sure we'll be in touch again throughout the year with news of what we and the Choccy Foot women's team are up to! You can also keep up to date via our Facebook page and Fi is posting regular updates from our riding adventures on Instagram - search for @choccyfoot if you'd like to stay in touch that way!
