Footprint: Chocolate Foot News, February 2014

Hello and welcome to the first Footprint for 2014!

Plenty has happened since our last newsletter, the Singletrack Mind Series finished with a flourish on the fine trails of Kinross Forest in Orange, and summer has been a whirl of riding trails and good times. We've also been finalising the planning for the 2014 Singletrack Mind Series and are really excited to be heading to two great new venues: the legendary singletrack of Mogo, and Mowbray Park Farm at Picton.

Last weekend we raced at the Ginja Ninja 250 at Kinross in very wet and slippery conditions and the trails still shone, reinforcing our view that Orange is an awesome place to close out the Series again in 2014. Great to catch up with lots of familiar faces and very happy to come away with a win in the mixed pairs!

We've also been busy with skills clinics including women-only and mixed groups. We're stoked to see everyone going away with better confidence, control and enjoying their riding more as a result. More dates have been scheduled, details below!

We're hoping to have an announcement very soon about an exciting new initiative we're pursuing ... watch this space!

Welby & Kinross see out a great series in 2013

While we had to reschedule a few rounds in 2013, two because of rain and one due to the threat of bushfires, but the rescheduled races more than made up for any disappointment!

The racing at round 4 at Welby as like the weather on the original date: HOT! Plenty of hugely competitive racing and categories with tight battles all day. And there were plenty of compliments for the great work that the members of SHCC had put into the trails. Good times!

It almost became anti-climactic to have an event go ahead on schedule as it did for Round 5 at Orange! It was a great way to end out the Series with great trails and a town which boasts great food and wineries. With many categories yet to be decided, the racing would go down to the wire! And with some riders racking up over 35 hours in the saddle during the course of the Series it was our great honour to hand out the Series medals to our competitors, some sore, but all very much elated!

Clubby Corner

Wollongong MTB Club has been in numerous talks with both Wollongong and Shellharbour councils for the development of legal tracks in the area. Wollongong is hampered by the fact that the escarpment is controlled by National Parks, the Water Board and mining companies. Shellharbour Council is fully supportive with the Blackbutt Forrest and Green Valleys locations. We are currently negotiating to have an open day at Blackbutt where we hope to involve more local families into the sport. Keep an eye on the WMBC Facebook page for updates.

Manly-Warringah MTB Club have been holding their popular Short Track XC races at St Ives Showground over summer.
The racing is fast & furious, but there's nothing overly technical and with A, B & C grades it's very novice-friendly. Great for spectators too, and there's a free BBQ afterwards. The final round of this series is on Wednesday 12 March, check out the schedule here.

Supporting Michael Blyth

House renovations are underway at the family home of Michael Blyth, a young MTB'er who suffered a spinal injury, becoming a paraplegic. There has been some great support from local tradies with some volunteering their services or providing materials free of charge to help the family achieve the disability-friendly renovations needed. Please read Michael's story and go to his website michaelblyth.com.au to find out ways you can help.

That's it from us for now - don't forget you can also keep up to date via our Facebook page or you can follow us on Twitter.

Cheers
