Dear All

stm2012-2752012 SRAM Singletrack Mind Series

We're really looking forward to kicking off the third edition of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series on 29 April in Orange. The crew from the Central West Off Road Bicycle Club have been busy, buffing up the track and creating new sections for your singletracking pleasure! With a new venue, a superb local selection of gourmet food & wine, plus 40 Bonus Series Points on offer - it's hard to imagine what you'd rather be doing on this weekend!

Entries are open for the entire Series, and we've had a whopping 51 people sign up for our "6 for 5" Serial Offenders deal - thanks for your commitment and support of the Series! Don't forget to check out the Series t-shirt, jersey, and Chocolate Foot jersey, all available to purchase with your entry. Or if you're after your own custom gear, check out the great offer from Series sponsor Zerofive Custom Sportswear, which gives you 20% off your order.cycology-125

We'd like to extend a very warm welcome to two new Series sponsors - Cycology and Giant. Cycology are the team behind a great range of after cycle t-shirt designs, which are totally unique as they are hand drawn or painted. Giant needs little introduction, and will be present at the events with a range of their fine steeds for you to demo as well as assisting with mechanical support in addition to our regular expert neutral support providers, SRAM. They'll also be giving away a voucher to the value of $1500 which will be drawn at Presentation at every round! We're stoked to have giant-blue-150Cycology and Giant on board and look forward to seeing them at the events.

Entries for Round 1 close at midnight THIS Wednesday - get your teams organised and get entered!

rock-wallaby-2012-275Rock Wallaby Enduro

Entries are also open for the Rock Wallaby in Appin on 27 May. This Half Marathon event also has a 25km option – and with the tag line of "This ain't no road race", we're not surprised to see a 50-50 split across both distances in the current entry list. But don't be put off - while the course is rocky and technical in places, there's also plenty of firetrail and smooth flowy singletrack to enjoy a breather. Whatever your choice of distance, it'll be a great day out on the bike on the awesome trails of Appin, and we're stoked to have the support of Wollongong Mountain Bike Club (WMBC) and the township of Appin once again.

With all the rain we've had recently it's no surprise that there's a few boggy sections in the 25km long course, especially in the Southern loop. The good news is that we've bypassed the vast majority of of the sloppy stuff so you should come back looking 'stoked with a smile' not 'brown with a frown!' That said, you still might get a little wet crossing the Georges river twice every lap! WMBC's trail crew have been putting in some serious time repairing and modifying the club XC track, including a new section of singletrack. We can't wait to link it all together for the 2012 Rock Wallaby!

Head to the website for all the info and to enter.

livingstone-npNew Trails in Livingstone National Park

It's always exciting to hear about new trails, particularly when the location is within National Park. Here's an update from the MTB Wagga crew, which we thought deserved its very own section!

Trailscapes and NSW NPWS commenced work in March on 2.3 km (the first of 5 stages) of “multi-use trail” (singletrack) in the Northern reaches of Livingstone National Park. This brand new trail was designed by Tony Boone and the team of IMBA Australia and will be green-rated, providing a fun, flowy track through beautiful terrain. It's a 10km figure-of-eight loop which will hopefully become a core trail for at least another 20km of blue rated trail, and with opportunity for A & B lines and challenges along its length, the flow, grade reversals and trail lines will provide options for all. About 40km of motorbike created single track has been closed, but MTB Wagga understands the importance of this closure having worked with NSW NPWS since 2005 to make this happen. This will be an example of sustainable trail building in native bush.

Hopefully this be a significant NSW NPWS Pilot Project, but Tumut office and MTB Wagga still need to urgently secure more cash while Trailscapes is in the area to complete the first loop, as NPWS have only budgeted for the first 2.3 km section and need to identify internal funds to open the first loop. IMBA au has offered to help organise some community build days.

It's hoped that Livingstone National Park will become an iconic riding destination once both planned loops are completed. Keep an eye on the MTB Wagga website to keep up to date.

NSW XC Series Announced!

Just in case you prefer your races a little shorter, we thought we'd share with you the exciting news that a NSW State XC Series will be offered in 2012! Huge props to NSWMTB and Real Insurance for combining forces to make it happen.

Consisting of four races across some of the best MTB tracks in NSW, this series will determine who will be the state’s fastest XC rider in each category. It is designed to help develop riders in preparation for the national series at the end of the year, by providing top level competition, while still letting newcomers to XC racing test their skills and fitness against similar riders. Riders of all abilities and fitness levels are catered for at these events.

Head over to CycleNation for all the details.
