Women's Intermediate MTB Skills

Upcoming Skills Clinic Dates:

Saturday 29 April, 8.30am-2.30pm (Update: 27.4.17 - Clinic Full)

Location: Manly Dam

IMG 6229Our women-only mountain bike skills clinic is suitable for intermediate female riders who want to improve their technical riding ability. You will have a reasonable amount of riding experience and a good level of fitness. With two instructors and a small group of participants, we can ensure plenty of attention for each person. The drills you'll learn and practice will be tailored to ensure everyone gets the most out of the day.

Fiona Dick & Joe Ward are your instructors for the skills day. With a wealth of knowledge and experience between them, and great feedback from skills clinics they've taught together, they are committed to ensuring you have a productive, fun day on the bike and are happy to answer any questions you may have, however 'newbie' you may think they are! From a female perspective, Fi feels that she learnt to ride the hard way (by crashing a lot) and is keen to pass on her knowledge to enable others to ride more efficiently and confidently ... with hopefully less bruises along the way!

What we'll be covering in the skills day:

  • Bike safety & setup - ensuring your bike is mechanically sound, comfortable, and suitably set up for your riding style
  • Body position and weight distribution - understanding the effect of your body position on the bike
  • Balance skills - for control at low speed and in the tight stuff
  • Braking - which brake does what and how to brake for best effect
  • Cornering and singletrack technique - learn to rail your favourite singletrack!
  • Ascending & descending - correct body position, gear selection, line choice
  • Riding over obstacles - wheel lifts & monohops
  • Roll downs and step ups
  • Line choice & putting into practice the above skills on the trails

  • Mountain bike - please make sure your bike is mechanically sound and clean
  • Bike gear - helmet (Australian Standards AS/NZS 2063 approved), gloves, shoes, sunnies
