IMG 6498Join Chocolate Foot for this beginner MTB clinic where you will learn some basic skills and techniques and enjoy a ride on some beginner-friendly off road trails.

This workshop is suitable for novice mountain bikers, and anyone who can already ride a bike who might be wondering what mountain biking is all about or wants to have a taster before taking the plunge and buying all the gear. During the session we'll take you through bike setup, body position, and basic skills to help you kick start your mountain biking with control and confidence!

You just need to bring your mountain bike, helmet, water, spare tube, and any snacks you need. We have arranged for discounted bike hire with Manly Bike Tours, who are offering a generous 15% discount to clinic participants. Booking is essential - contact them on 02 8005 7368 to arrange your bike hire.

Fiona Dick & Joe Ward are your instructors for the session. With a wealth of knowledge and experience between them, and great feedback from recent skills clinics they've taught together, they are committed to ensuring you have a productive, fun time on the bike and are happy to answer any questions you may have, however 'newbie' you may think they are!

What we'll be covering in the session:

  • Bike safety & setup - ensuring your bike is mechanically sound and set up correctly
  • Body position and weight distribution - understanding the effect of your body position on the bike
  • Balance skills - for control at low speed
  • Braking - how to brake for best effect
  • Cornering technique - learn how to corner with confidence!
  • Gearing - demystifying the drivetrain
  • Hills - correct body position
  • Putting into practice the above skills on a trail ride

What you'll need to bring:

  • Mountain bike - please make sure your bike is mechanically sound and clean! As mentioned above, Manly Bike Tours are offering discounted bike hire to clinic participants.
  • Bike gear - helmet (Australian Standards AS/NZS 2063 approved), gloves, shoes, sunnies
  • Spare tube
  • Water - please make sure you bring with you bottles and/or hydration pack full of water. For those using bottles, note you'll need to carry your water with you on the bike so please bring a backpack if your bike doesn't have a bottle cage.
