South Coast United Mountainbikers (SCUM) is a mountain bike club based in the Shoalhaven area on the NSW south coast. Formed in 2004, SCUM aims to foster cross country and downhill mountain biking at both competitive and social levels. Surrounded by some awesome State Forests, SCUM currently have four cross country trails and a five minute downhill track. There are also numerous rugged firetrails and powerline easements around the area that link together to provide some great rides, whether you're looking for a quick spin or a full day in the bush.
The venue for the Round 2 of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series - Protected by Brave Soldier is Coondoo Road, in Currambene State Forest near Nowra.
Located 15 minutes South of Nowra, Coondoo is the original home of SCUM's Endurance races. With a couple of small changes in altitude and plenty of course variation this is one of the jewels in SCUM's crown. It's a regular venue on SCUM's XC race calendar as well as being utilised for their endurance events. Singlespeeders can choose between a 16 or 18 tooth cog.
SCUM have mapped out a course of approximately 10km. Check it out here. Note that this is the proposed course only, and will be subject to change on the day. Practice on the official course will be available on the weekend itself as per the schedule below.
Check out the awesome Coondoo Road track with the crew from SCUM!
Heading south out of Nowra, turn east off the Princes Highway into Comberton Grange Road (approx 3.5km from South Nowra). After approximately 500m, turn left into Western Boundary Road. Follow this for a kilometre and you'll be at the event centre. See this map for more information. There will be event signage from the Princes Highway.
Entries for Round 2 of the Singletrack Mind Series are now closed. We are not accepting any entries on the day, however substitute riders are allowed. All substitute riders must download, fill out and bring the Replacement Rider Form to Registration. If your new rider is not a MTBA member they will need to pay $15 (cash only) for a MTBA day licence even if the rider they are replacing has already paid for a day licence online – the insurance policy always stays with the individual. Day licences are not transferable BUT the unused day licence will be refunded to the rider who originally paid for it in online entry – minus a buck ($1) for administration.

Camping and parking are available on an adjoining private property from 1.00-9.00pm on Saturday 15 May and parking from 5.30am on Sunday 16 May. The landowners will be collecting parking fees ($2 per vehicle) and camping fees ($5 per vehicle) at the gate. This area is approximately 100m from the Event Centre and no parking is available in the Event Centre on Saturday or Sunday. You will be able to set up your race tents for forest for the next day, however we do not recommend you camp in the forest itself due to the danger of falling branches. If the gate to the camping & parking is closed when you arrive, it won't be locked so you may open it to enter but ensure you close it after you!
For those arriving on Saturday 15 May, toilets, water and event camping are available from 1pm, when you can also Register and practice the course.
On Sunday 16 May, the following services will be provided:
There are plenty of great accommodation and dining options in nearby Nowra and Jervis Bay. See the Shoalhaven Holidays website for more details.
Except for the obvious (bike, helmet, race food, toolkit & spares), you might want to bring a pop-up tent for shelter beside the track, and a chair to relax in between laps. If you want to head out with Kerry on a social ride at 7.00pm to check out the power of the awesome K-Lite Racing lights, you'll need to have your own lights. Note also that you must have already completed your event registration to ride with Kerry.
MTBA members must present their membership card at Registration, and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the event waiver on their behalf.
We're looking for willing people to join our event crew - if you'd like to volunteer to help us out on race day we'd really appreciate it! The type of roles for volunteers might be marshalling, Registration, event centre set up, assisting with timing, etc. Volunteers will be well looked after during the event, and hopefully you'll find it gratifying to know you've helped the participants have a fun day on their bikes!
If you'd like to be involved, please fill out this form to register. Note that you can select your availability for each round on the form.
If you have any questions about this event, please don't hesitate to contact us by email up until 11am Friday 14 May or by phone - 0457 084 552.
