Round One

ctmbc-logoLidsdale State Forest, Lithgow, hosted by Central Tablelands Mountain Bike Club - Sunday 18 April 2010

The Venue

The venue for the first round of the SRAM Singletrack Mind Series - Protected by Brave Soldier is western NSW's singletrack oasis, Lidsdale State Forest near Lithgow. Well worth the drive, the deceptively challenging Lidsdale track will serve up 8 hours of singletrack joy for those seeking the enduro fix!

The iconic Lidsdale XC circuit was first used for mountain bike races back in the early 90s. It was home to NSW's first endurance race, the '99 6hr. The trail network is situated in pine forest with sandstone base, there isn’t too much in the way of scary technical rock outcrops but the tight twisting course offers plenty of challenge for those trying to go fast.

As possibly the oldest MTB club in Australia, we think it's appropriate that Central Tablelands MTB Club (CTMBC) are hosting the Retro Bike Special Category Championship for solo riders - perhaps there will be some expert judges within their ranks!

The Course

The crew from CTMBC are planning to serve up a singlegrack feast of approximately 9km. Check out the proposed course here - why not head up for a practice lap or two before the weekend itself? Note that this is the proposed course only, and will be subject to change on the day. Practice on the official course will be available on the weekend itself as per the schedule below.

Check out the awesome Lidsdale State Forest track with the crew from CTMBC!

Directions

Lidsdale State Forest is approximately 15km north west of Lithgow. CTMBC provide detailed directions on their website of how to get to the Lidsdale track. The event centre will be on the old concrete section of highway just off Forest Ridge Drive, and there will be event signage from from the Great Western Highway.

Entries

Entries for Round 1 of the Singletrack Mind Series are now closed. We will accept On the Day Entries, with a couple of conditions, as follows ...

We have received a bunch of sob stories from people who didn't enter in time. Now, we love hearing excuses and long rambling tales of how things didn't quite go to plan - “my dog ate my internet dongle”, “I thought my mate was going to enter us and he thought I was going to enter us”. Sometimes they're sad and entirely legitimate but sometimes they're just a little … creative!

So we've decided to take on the day entries BUT you have to come up with a creative sob story to go with it. The teller of the best story will be required to perform this with great conviction at Presentation for which they will receive a little something as a reward for entertaining us!

On the day entries must download, fill out and bring this Entry form to Registration (and of course your sob story). On the day entries are cash only, so please bring correct change – also note that a late fee of $10 per rider applies.

Also, this doesn’t mean that on the day entries will be offered at future rounds – we’re just being extra flexible this time around to lick you all into shape!

What To Bring

Except for the obvious (bike, helmet, race food, toolkit & spares), you might want to bring a pop-up tent for shelter beside the track, and a chair to relax in between laps. You'll need to have some drinking water - we will have a 1000l tank available, however if it's a hot day we can't guarantee that this will last. And if you want to head out with Kerry on a social ride at 7.00pm to check out the power of the awesome K-Lite Racing lights, you'll need to have your own lights. Note also that you must have already registered to ride with Kerry.

MTBA members must present their membership card at Registration, and riders under 18 must have a parent or guardian present to sign the event waiver on their behalf.

Results

Results will be available at www.onlineresults.com.au during the event and a PDF file posted here after each round.

We're looking for willing people to join our event crew - if you'd like to volunteer to help us out on race day we'd really appreciate it! The type of roles for volunteers might be marshalling, Registration, event centre set up, assisting with timing, etc. Volunteers will be well looked after during the event, and hopefully you'll find it gratifying to know you've helped the participants have a fun day on their bikes!
